Working from home, I run a couple of businesses. I write programs for business solutions and game apps. I also write a raw food blog, which is on a hosted blog site. I needed quick solutions as I started each project.
Shared hosting solved many of my start-up problems. It was cost-effective and, therefore, didn’t strain my budget. There were a multitude of companies that offered a lot of different shared web hosting packages to meet my needs. The package included a control panel that made it easy for me to manage my website. It also provided templates enabling me to get a great looking website up quickly.
After a few months, I began to notice that at certain times of the day my website’s response time became very slow. During the same time, my business grew. Unfortunately, my website now exceeds its bandwidth limits and is no longer cost-effective.
On a more personal level, I really enjoy writing my raw food for singles on a budget blog and want to expand it to include demonstration videos. I got the idea to allow my readers to post their own raw food recipe demonstrations. I thought this would give my blog audience a more dynamic experience. My current blog hosting site doesn’t allow me enough bandwidth to accomplish this. I need another solution.
In addition to writing mobile game apps and a raw food blog, I also provide customized programming to streamline business processes for small companies. Usually, this only involves client-side office programs. But, sometimes I need a server-side solution. Rather than setting up and maintaining servers at home, it would be better if I could rent a server when I need it. It also should be versatile enough to take care of my different clients’ needs. Not all clients have the same operating systems or programs in place.
Taking everything into consideration, I realized that it wasn’t effective to have my businesses and blog spread out over several hosting sites. I needed to consolidate them. The solution, I found, was virtual dedicated servers. I considered sharing my dedicated server with other websites, but decided that maintaining total control and versatility was more important to my business than the cost savings from sharing. The virtual environment enables me to add and delete virtual servers according to my clients’ needs.
Buying a dedicated server gives me control. I won’t have to share resources with other users. It provides the versatility I need for my clients. I won’t have to worry about performance or bandwidth restrictions. A dedicated server is scalable and will grow with my businesses, even if I add a few more. It will also be more secure. If I have enough space, I’m going to host a social site for my family and friends to exchange news, pictures and videos.
