How To Remodel Your Child’s Room On A Budget

There are many reasons for why you may decide it’s time for a child bedroom renovation. It may be that your little one isn’t so little any more, or even that your tastes have simply changed. Either way, you will be pleased to learn that there are a number of things you can do to update an old design without breaking the bank. Here are some great ideas for how to remodel your child’s bedroom on a budget:

Use your child for inspiration. If your child has a hobby (soccer or dance, for example), then you can hang things like jerseys and ballet shoes on the walls in a decorative fashion by simply enclosing them in shadow box frames. Also, you can place awards and trophies on floating wall shelves for some added dimension.

Furniture. While it may not be within your budget to purchase new bedroom furniture, you can change the look of the furniture you already have in order to give your child’s bedroom a completely different look. The simplest thing you can do with furniture is to paint it. Consider a basic black or white, or even a bold, bright color, depending on your tastes. Also, if your child has bunk beds that seem too juvenile, consider breaking the beds apart and using them as matching twin beds.

Wall coverings. Of course, a fresh coat of paint is probably the simplest (and least expensive) way you can give your child’s bedroom a whole new look. However, there are also some creative and fun things you can do to create custom wall coverings that are truly reflective of your child’s unique personality. Consider framing your child’s favorite school art projects and hanging them throughout the room for pops of color, or even creating a wall mural with paints or wall decals.

Arrangement. You can go a long way in giving your child’s room a new feel by rearranging the furniture layout. It can be a lot of fun (if you have some strong arms) to experiment a little and move things around until you’ve got it right.

New bedding. The bed is the centerpiece of the room, and new bedding can set the room off in a whole new direction, and also provide inspiration for the rest of the room’s décor. Fortunately, bedding sets are relatively inexpensive and easy to change out. It’s actually a good idea to choose new bedding before you do anything else, to make the rest of your decoration easy.

As you can see, there are some very simple and cheap things you can do to completely update the look and feel of your child’s bedroom. Experiment with one or all of these ideas to create a room that speaks for your child’s unique personality.
