Milan Fashion Week – 5 Trends In Menswear

After much guessing, the Milan Fashion Week is out with the trends in menswear. The clothes have new cuts, colors and ideas, some of which are really exciting. Here are 5 menswear trends that is sure to amaze and excite you –

  1. The Blue Trend – This is not the traditional blue but a cerulean blue that flooded the show. Collections from Roberto Cavalli, Trussardi and Jil Sander all showed touches of blue in their bright and strong, well-tailored pieces. Competing with cerulean were navy and aqua blue.
  2. The Tribal Trend – After seeking inspiration from the Indian Halloween costumes, the tribal trend has found a place for itself. You can find this motif in every item that was on show. There were tribal details and ethnic touches to all the items. There were wooden beads on sweaters and T-shirts and batik prints on pants and jackets from Burberry, and Mark McNairy. Pieces from Etro were embroidered and had a slightly more formal paisley pants but were nevertheless tribal in design.
  3. The Wider Pants – After seeing skinny pants rule, wider pants now make their appearance. The pants have cuts that add volume and can be worn with suits, as Armani has demonstrated. Salvatore Ferragamo had ready separates and even Calvin Kleins’s sports collection had a wide track pant with school-like elastic at ankles.
  4. The Long Jackets – Although short blazers are still the trend from the past season, longer jackets are making a comeback. Designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, John Varvatos and Corneliani have given them a prime place in the fashion world. These jackets have relaxed fabrics and have been lightly tailored for the summer.
  5. The Glitz – Did you see that the jackets had a lot of shine and glitz? The first such piece that was spotted was a Pitti Uomo creation in silk. Other fashion houses like Prada, Gucci, Canali and others are following the trend and Milan Fashion Week was liberally sprinkled with leather, Lurex and others.  These materials reflect light and add glitz to evening wear. While the Gucci suit gleamed in black, the silk suits from Canali and Prada were not far behind. There were rhinestones and silk synthetics that gleamed some more.

Whether it is formal, casual or an evening look, Milan Fashion Week has something for all men. Although there was some guesswork regarding the newest trends, it still took everyone by surprise. It was one thing to predict and another to actually see the prediction come true.
