Top Three Non-Lethal Self-Defense Weapons

Many people choose to carry a non-lethal weapon because they decide not to carry a gun for one reason or another. While non-lethal weapons do not kill, they are, in fact quite harmful if used properly. The key to using a non-lethal weapon is insuring that you use the weapon correctly.

Stun Guns
Stun guns have become popular among police offers that use them in instances where they do not want to kill someone, but rather make them comply. The police may use a stun gun on someone who is intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Stun guns have been around and in use for many years beyond the use by the police over the past few decades. Because stun guns use electrical currents, the person receiving the volt will be in a lot of pain, and will cause him to lose control of his body. The volts, which range from 65,000 to 500,000, are designed to be used on people with pacemakers, and can be felt through clothing. Stun guns are an effective self-defense weapon so long as you can be sure that the weapon is not used on you instead of your assailant.

Pepper Spray
Pepper spray is another common weapon and is vastly used by women and prison guards. Most pepper sprays are derived of cayenne and other peppers in combination with other ingredients which cause an incapacitating burning sensation to the eyes. This will ultimately cause an assailant to feel pain and blur their sight temporarily. Pepper spray is effective both on humans as well as an animal should you find yourself being attacked by a bear, mountain lion, or moose. Sometimes there may be a slight delay before the attacker feels the pepper spray in his eyes. However, like stun guns, pepper spray is effective on people who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as the pepper spray is still effective despite their lowered inability to feel pain. As with the stun gun, you must be diligent in protecting your pepper spray from being used against you.

Tasers
Tasers are different than stun guns in that the taser does not have to make contact with the assailant, and a taser has two air cartridges which are connected to wires. Once the cartridges hit the target he will be hit with a powerful pulse of electromagnetic energy which has a similar effect as the stun gun does. The taser will cause your assailant to feel pain and lose control of his muscles. It is best to aim a taser at someone’s chest or back.
