Style Spotlight: Kate Young Named Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylist

Kate Young is one of the most popular and respected star stylists on the Hollywood scene, known for getting top A-listers dressed to impress for magical moments on the red carpet. Young has just earned the coveted title of Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylist, topping The Hollywood Reporter’s list of 25 top stylists in Tinseltown. Kate Young takes the crown from the much-celebrated Rachel Zoe, who was last year’s winner.

Before she became a world-famous celebrity stylist, Kate Young graduated from Oxford with degrees in English and Art History; she then served at Vogue under Anna Wintour, as an assistant and market editor. The stylist met her first clients – Julianna Margulies and Jennifer Connely – on magazine photo shoots.

Kate Young showed an interest in fashion from a young age; as a little girl, she would change into different outfits for every activity, from cooking to helping her parents change a lightbulb! Young has carried this passion into her career as a stylist, helping her celebrity clients earn their place among Hollywood’s best-dressed. Kate Young’s best-known clients have included:

Natalie Portman

Last year, Kate Young attracted widespread attention in the industry as the stylist for the Black Swan star, who was pregnant at the time. Young kept her client looking gorgeous throughout awards season in a succession of carefully selected elegant gowns.

Michelle Williams

Kate Young really helped this star shine at the Oscars, in a strapless Louis Vuitton number of orange silk and organza. Michelle also chose Kate Young as her stylist for the Golden Globes, where she was a hit in a midnight-blue Jason Wu gown.

Rachel Weisz

This brunette beauty has also been dressed in one of Jason Wu’s creations by Kate Young, who styles for Wu and collaborated with him on her gown selection for the Golden Globes.

To mark the release of the 25 Most Powerful Stylists results, The Hollywood Reporter has produced a special four-cover edition, featuring some of the stylists who made the list along with Kate Young. The covers feature the following celebrity and stylist pairings:

• Charlize Theron and Leslie Fremar, the stylist who made it to No. 2 this year;

• Emma Stone and Petra Flannery, who earned the No. 3 spot;

• Jessica Chastain and Elizabeth Stewart, who was named No. 4; and

• Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang, the stylist placed at No. 11.

Following this latest success, Kate Young has said she hopes to introduce a range of affordable evening dresses – meaning the rest of us could soon be looking like A-listers with the benefit of her star style expertise!
