Some of us are more environmentally conscious than others and the same goes for celebrities. When they aren’t are in front of the cameras a lot of celebrities can be found fighting for a number of different environmental issues. This is great as celebrities are in a brilliant position to raise awareness of environmental issues as they are well known figures and are constantly in the public eye.
There are a lot of other top lists of environmentally friendly celebrities out there. I did a little research and found the celebrities that appear most in these lists and here they are.
Pierce Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan may not be carrying out missions as the character James Bond anymore but he is involved in a number of environmental missions in his personal life. Brosnan has stepped away from the Aston Martin and is known to drive a hybrid car. He is also a well known advocate for government legislation that is in favour of sustainability. His other involvements in environmental issues include being a supporter of a large number of environmentally charities. Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith were recognized for their efforts in raising awareness for many environmental issues by being inducted into the environmental hall of fame back in 2008.
Natalie Portman
We have seen Natalie Portman play a number of different roles over the years but one character that isn’t an act is Natalie Portman – environmentally friendly celebrity. In 2007 she and the zoologist Jack Hanna travelled to Rwanda in order to film a documentary about endangered gorillaz. Portman has also designed her own vegan shoes and is well known for her efforts in animal rights activism. There are also reports that her engagement ring is entirely eco-friendly.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt is well known for his Make It Right Foundation. The programs aim is to rebuild homes in the New Orleans 9th Ward that were destroyed in a hurricane. All the homes that are to be rebuilt will be green eco-homes. They will be fitted with a number of features that help save energy and will also protect them if another hurricane hits the area. Pitt is also involved with a few other environmental charities that mainly focus on animal rights and green living.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Out of all the celebrities I looked at, Leonardo DiCaprio had to be the most environmentally conscious celebrity. He drives either a Prius or a hybrid car, has solar panels fitted on his home and chooses to fly commercial instead of private. He made a documentary called the 11th hour, which is about environmental issues and how ignoring these issues has made things more of a problem. DiCaprio also sits on the board of Natural Resources Defence Council as well as Global Green USA. If you follow him on Twitter or like his page on Facebook you will see that he is a big advocate for a number of environmental issues. His likes on Facebook include charities such as the Rainforest Alliance and the Antarctic Rainforest Alliance. He also started a foundation called the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which supports a variety of environmentally friendly initiatives.
